The domain name Gibraltar.com has received a $360,000 offer at domain name aftermarket Sedo.
Gibraltar.com has received a bid for $360,000 at Sedo and the reserve has been met. This domain was auctioned in Sedo’s first Great Domains auction, but like many domains in that auction the reserve was not met. Apparently a buyer stepped up to meet the seller’s reserve.
Gibraltar is a small British overseas territory that has been in dispute over the centuries, with Spain handing it over in 1713 under the Treaty of Utrecht. Its current population is just over 25,000. It is home of the famous Rock of Gibraltar.
Sedo has a number of other auctions worth watching. Lazy.com has met its reserve at $26,200 with 53 bids. Hotel.pk has a single bid for $25,000 with the reserve met. .Pk is the country code domain for Pakistan. March.com has been bid up to $25,000 but the reserve is not met. Tarot.org has a $24,000 successful bid, which is a high price for a .org domain name. Another notable sale in the works is Carlsbad.biz at $8,500. .Biz domains haven’t been selling well and this is a high price compared to other recent sales.
NameMedia’s Afternic subsidiary has been on a roll lately as well. It has two auctions worth watching. Foru.ms is at $7,000. This is an interesting play on the .ms domain, which is the country code for Montserrat. Kerching.com is at $11,000. Kerching is the name of a CBBC sitcom.
Recent notable sales at Afternic include RochesterJobs.com for $7,500, SmartforLife.com for $12,500, and AuctionNetwork.tv for $25,000.

Greetings from Gibraltar – Nice sale… at $12 per head of population! Although small Gibraltar is also a hotbed of the online gaming industry with well known brands such as partygaming, 888, mansion etc. headquartered here.

Graham, good point. I own a directory related to Gibraltar and there’s definitely a lot of interest in Gibraltar — it’s strategic location is part of the reason Britain wanted it so badly. My understanding is that it’s a big military hub as well.

Yes it does hold a strategic location, however the military side of things is a fraction of what it used to be in the cold war days. Now it is booming with the online gaming industry which employs approx. 10% of the local population. It is also has a growing offshore finance center (banking / funds / captives) and is a popular tourist destination. It will be interesting to see what the domain will finally be used for. This domain is crying out to be developed.

Cool, thanks for the info — the power of the internet in full effect!
