Webhosting company and domain name registrar Aplus.Net has been acquired.
Aplus.net has been acquired by Catalyst Investors. Aplus.net is mostly known as a webhosting company, but the company is also an ICANN-accredited regsistrar through its parent company, Abacus America, d/b/a Names4Ever.
According to the company’s web site, Aplus.net has registered over 500,000 domains since it was founded. It also has 200,000 customers and 4,000 dedicated server customers. The company was established in 1992 and is headquartered in San Diego. Aplus.Net has over 300 employees.
The company advertises $6.95 domains (plus ICANN fee), but there’s a limit of one at this price and renewal fees are higher.
I have never been a customer of Aplus.Net, but have experience with them. As a small business owner I received a number of voicemails a few months ago — at least one a day for three straight days — advertising its services. Make no mistake that the domain name and webhosting businesses are competitive, but “phone spam” is not the answer for getting long-term customers.
