GoDaddy faced lots of criticism when it first launched its domain name aftermarket service, TDNAM. One of the major problems was the long and indeterminate wait period for receiving domains after you won (see GoDaddy aftermarket – I finally got my domain). This has been resolved–the wait period is now fixed at two weeks. You still run the risk of the original registrant renewing the domain, but this chance is small.
TDNAM has some added features that make it more worthwhile:
1. High Traffic Domains – a new section lists domains that apparently receive high traffic (backlinks, Overture score, etc).
2. Recent Sales – a list of recent sales at TDNAM. Some of the higher dollar domains TDNAM has sold include:
InstiPro.com $10,777
NMS.net $5,300
Bears2Go.com $3,230
TheBestWebhosting.biz $3,000
CampaignBlog.com $3,000
CorporateTaxAttorney.com $3,000
PeanutGallery.com $3,000
ServerExpo.com $2,995
NewOrleansFlood.com $2,555
There are still a couple things TDNAM could do to make the aftermarket better:
1. Auto-extend auctions – auctions end at a specified time (like eBay). It would be better if auctions were auto-extended by a few minutes whenever someone places a bid in the closing minutes (like SnapNames). This would prevent people from trying to snipe domains at the last second.
2. Stop over-priced listings – TDNAM looks like eBay with some of its rediculously priced domains. Check these out:
Saracen.net $120,000
InvestmentBuying.com $250,000
HotWebAuction.com $75,000
MuscleMaximizer.com$250,000
DropShipCentral.com $1,000,000
C’mon folks, why are you wasting your time listing these? GoDaddy should cap prices at a certain amount or send high-priced domains to human review before listing. Fortunately user-listed domains are separated from expiring domains.
Overall I’m impressed with the improvements at TDNAM. Let’s hope they keep it up.
