Serious domain name owners know there’s one Whois service that tops the rest: WhoIs.sc. Whois.sc offers four main services from its home page:
Name Spinner- enter a keyword to get 20+ suggestions for domains containing the keyword. It shows all major extensions for the domains (.com, .net, .org., .info, .biz, .us). This service is also used by many registrars through Whois.sc’s API.
Domain Explorer- enter a keyword and Domain Explorer brings up a list of registered and expired domains containing the keyword. For each domain and extension, it tells you the status of the domain: registered with active web site, registered and parked/redirected, registered and no web site, on-hold, RGP, pending delete, deleted and available again, or never registered. This is a great way to find expired domains, to find available .coms in which other extensions are taken, and to find popular domains in which most extensions are taken but one or more are still available.
At Auction- Creates a list of domain names available for backordering at SnapNames.
For Sale-This is one of my favorites! It brings up listings at Sedo and Afternic for domains containing your keyword. This is a great way to find bargains on already registered domains. It saves me the step of going to Sedo and Afternic to search for the keyword at each site. (And the search runs much faster than the slow Afternic site!).
The Whois listings provided by Whois.sc are very advanced. On one screen you see not only standard Whois data but also Alexa Rank, Yahoo listing, reverse IP lookup* (great for finding parked domains to buy), Whois history* (a.k.a. WhoWas), and the status of other TLDs for the domain.
Basic use of Whois.sc is free. For $15 per month you can upgrade to a silver membership which provides you with:
-10 Mark Alerts – tells you whenever a specific word is used in a newly registered domain or in an expiring domain
-*Reverse IP lookup – only available to silver members)
-*Whois history – only available to silver members
-5 times as many Name Spinner suggestions
