An English-language Chinese country code domain just sold for big bucks.
Domain investors are buzzing about the sale of PrivateJet.cn, with a special interest in its English nature and the high price for this Chinese country code domain. But there’s more to the story.
According to a Namepros domain discussion thread, PrivateJet.cn was acquired for $15 by a domain investor and sold for over $80,000 in China.
However, the story revealed by Chinese news sources, such as Baijiahao.baidu.com is somewhat different. According to the article, domain investor Chris with the nickname “Domainnamer” sold PrivateJet.cn on September 1.
A few days earlier, the domain was actually sold to a different buyer at Sedo for 5,000 euros (about $6000). It appears that Chris regretted the sale, spent two days searching for a better buyer, and found one in China named Gary Fu. In the end, he did not honor the previous sales obligation but sold the domain to Gary for a whopping high 6-figure yuan (up to $150,000).
Gary Fu is the owner of Aviationx.cn (私航会), a booking platform for private jet hires. It allows users to download an app to their phone to manage their bookings.
PrivateJet.cn was registered in 2009. It was developed as a site (博飞网) between 2010 and 2016 to offer private jet sales and consulting. On December 23, 2018, the domain was sold for just 105 yuan or $15, which is incredibly cheap in my opinion. If Chris was the buyer, then he has just sold the domain at a massive profit.
Currently, PrivateJet.cn has a landing page saying the domain is for sale. The name “Chris” indicated on the page suggests that the buyer has not changed the nameservers yet. The domain is still listed for sale (make offer) at Sedo.
This domain sale confirms my long-time observation that there is a demand for English-based domains in China. I see these domains when I read funding news about Chinese startups every day.
(Note: Please read this before commenting about PrivateJet.com selling for $30 million.)

I learned two things from this article.
1)Privatejet.cn was worth $80k-$150k to Gary Fu
2)Chris “Domainnamer” valued his reputation at $80k-150k.
Sad.

I think I’ve found the link between the two names. Anyone who thinks they are going to make money via private jets is probably a tosser to begin with.

Can you elaborate on the link you have found?

Yes, it likely takes a certain type of person who thinks they are going to make money from private jets. Probably someone totally unrealistic, with lose morals who wants to be a millionaire.
Be extra wary of anyone claiming they are going to make money from these bling items such as private jets or super cars.
