Two neighboring companies in Austin are using new top level domain names.
New top level domain names are slowly being put into use. It’s not that unusual to see them in the wild anymore.
But I’ve now come across my first case of seeing two new top level domains on signs in close proximity to each other. Both signs are on my route home from the office.
First up is data.world, just north of the corner of Far West Blvd and MoPac in Austin:
Travel 100 yards south and you come across ARC.clinic:
Both of these domains are under Donuts’ top level domains, which isn’t very surprising. Donuts has released many more domains than other TLD companies, with almost 200 available for registration without restrictions.

Is the DrKoop.com sign still on the building off mopac?
Seems like we’re in the final phase of this 2nd tech bubble
Andrew Allemann says
Ha the building data.world is the old dr Koop building I believe

The www is a notifier that the two words are a URL. Im guessing this trend is going to come back strong till people are educated about gTLDs.

I agree. I have always hated using “www” — until new gTLDs came out.
EM @QUE.COM says
The www is always an option. You can simply type domain.com

Do you think a lot of people seeing data.world do not know it is an internet domain? Perhaps people trying to promote new TLD’s in commerce should go back to http://data.world so everyone knows what it is.
Jane Doe says
Well the http:// does force a useable link in browsers that don’t otherwise recognize a web address

I so wish there had been a “hat trick”. SWBC.MORTGAGE

Glad to know you see these gTLDs in your neighborhood. I only see one here in Fairfax VA church domain name expectations.church
The problem is nobody knows they are a new domain name. People thought it is a new slogan of the church.

Disclaimer: All % here are guesstimates of mine:
99% of the population will never realize data.world is a domain name. Besides no one knowing .world is a TLD the “dot” in the signage looks like a misplaced screw holding the sign up (note each plank has two screws).
http://www.ARC.clinic, don’t have faith that the www is going to help much here. To the uninformed (99% of the population) it will look like “ARCclinic” is the domain name and the business left of the .com. And yes, the public will rationalize the leaving off of “.com” before they realize .clinic is a TLD.
Even If the awareness issue that new TLDs have is overcome…even at the most general level, you will still have recall issues…was it data.planet, data.world, data.universe or wait was it world.data, planet.data etc etc.
If the search engines are not given extra points to the new gtlds, don’t see any value. And not currently buying into the studies on this showing the value of the new TLDs, all paid for by organizations that can profit by the adoption of new TLDs
