Dotster is holding another “domain happy hour” this Wednesday.
[UPDATE: See this new post. I have learned that domains will cost only $.50, but there are limits. There is also confusion about the time.Read more.]
Details of the promotion are not yet available, but last time Dotster held a happy hour it sold domains for $1 each. Unfortunately the first happy hour jammed Dotster’s servers and made it almost impossible to register domains. At the conclusion of the happy hour they offered domains for $5.99 each as a consolation to those that weren’t able to register the $1 domains.
According to an article in The Columbian, a Washington state newspaper, Dotster says it has learned from its bandwidth mistake and will prepare for the rush of future happy hours.
Dotster loses money anytime it sells .com domain names for less than $6.25. The company hopes to make up the difference by gaining customers and advertising its other services like webhosting. The last happy hour promoted a webhosting package for 50 domains–obviously geared at large domain name owners.
Dotster’s happy hour will be Wednesday, March 8 at 4PM EST. Go to the Dotster site at this time to see what the special offer is.
