Company registers 75 domain names related to Periscope.
Twitter’s Periscope live-streaming app is proving to be a hit. Someone at the company decided it was time to go all in on brand protection for the app.
On Friday, Twitter registered 75 domain names related to the app, ranging from PeriscopeCats.com to PeriscopeValentines.com.
I guess it’s not just the Chinese that continue to register .com domain names en masse.
Here’s the entire list:
periscopeair.com periscopeball.com periscopebenefits.com periscopebooking.com periscopebreakup.com periscopebreakups.com periscopecar.com periscopecats.com periscopecircles.com periscopeclient.com periscopecloud.com periscopecommerce.com periscopecommercial.com periscopecommercials.com periscopecouch.com periscopecouchmode.com periscopecurated.com periscopecuration.com periscopedads.com periscopedance.com periscopedancing.com periscopedeck.com periscopedogs.com periscopedrive.com periscopedrives.com periscopeelection.com periscopeemojis.com periscopeevent.com periscopeflock.com periscopefutbol.com periscopegame.com periscopegamers.com periscopehighlights.com periscopehistory.com periscopeinterview.com periscopejob.com periscopekids.com periscopemakeup.com periscopemeet.com periscopemeetings.com periscopemode.com periscopemodes.com periscopemodule.com periscopemonitor.com periscopemusical.com periscopeneighborhood.com periscopeneighborhoods.com periscopepicture.com periscopepolitics.com periscopepromoted.com periscopepromotedvideo.com periscopepropmoted.com periscopepublisher.com periscopepublishers.com periscoperace.com periscoperacing.com periscopescience.com periscopescreen.com periscopestores.com periscopestyles.com periscopetablet.com periscopeteams.com periscopetechnology.com periscopetrending.com periscopevalentine.com periscopevalentines.com periscopevent.com periscopevents.com periscopevine.com periscopevote.com periscopevotes.com periscopevoting.com periscopewalk.com periscopeweather.com perisopestyle.com
The domain names, which were registered at Mark Monitor, do not yet resolve.
I can’t help but question if these defensive registrations are part of a futile effort to protect the brand.

periscope.sucks is still unregistered. Talk about leaving the back door open.
Joseph Peterson says
Closing that back door is literally impossible. Registering .SUCKS or any combination of gripe domains, regardless of TLD, will not prevent human beings from saying your brand sucks by other means.
Maybe Twitter’s brand protection spree for “periscope” is equally futile – simultaneously excessive and incomplete. But at least they are pursuing domains that cover POSITIVE uses of “periscope”.
When brand protection makes sense, that’s usually because the extra domains help resolve ambiguities or minimize competition. So if any of the “periscope” domains above match branded services that Periscope will offer, then preempting knock-off / impostor / competing services might be Twitter’s rationale.
Right or wrong in execution, that’s the right direction. Buying .SUCKS is utterly misguided, since it deters nobody from saying your brand sucks and leaves us plenty of opportunities to say so.

Power of .com…
Jamie Zoch says
They should have registered them all in .tv … since they don’t own Periscope.com and use the .tv

Good point
MewTwoX says
They don’t own PERISCOPE.COM
Utter failure, will be tweeting @jack about his idiocy. Dumping my stock, what a bunch of idiots.
