Please take the ninth annual survey from Domain Name Wire.
The 9th annual Domain Name Wire survey officially launches today, and this year’s looks very different from the past.
You may recall that last year someone tried to game the survey by spamming it with votes for themselves and their companies.
Although there are some practical ways to deal with this, I decided to take a fresh look at the survey and consider what its value is. I asked myself what the real value was of having people vote on which domain companies they think are best.
On the one hand, voting for companies means a lot of people take the survey and get excited about it. On the other hand, the results are usually bunk. It’s driven by companies asking people to vote for them. I know because I’ve been on the receiving end of emails asking for me to vote for Company X or Company Y in the latest competition.
While that makes for good entertainment, it’s not exactly valuable.
So this year’s survey is different. It’s not about companies. It’s about the industry. Where it was in 2013 and where it will be in 2014 and beyond.
I’d really appreciate you taking five to ten minutes to complete the survey.
As an incentive, I have a couple prizes to offer you:
-One survey taker will win a free escrow at Agreed.com for a transaction of up to $25,000. Another 10 will received 50% off an Agreed.com escrow.
-Two survey takers will receive a copy of David Kesmodel’s book “The Domain Game”

Thanks!

Andrew the survey has a problem on the number of new gtld registrations in 2014. I tried to put a number but it only accepted 0.
Andrew Allemann says
I think I resolved that. Please enter into the survey again and see if you can put a higher number.
Konstantinos Zournas says
I already replied with 0. But that is not what I wanted…
Andrew Allemann says
You should be able to return to the survey. If not, email me and I’ll update your number. Sorry about that.

Darn, I let 400,000 new members into DBR for nothing 🙂
Andrew Allemann says
I think running a company-voting competition in a fairly closed (and paid) environment like DBR could work. The challenge is when survey-takers self select and it doesn’t cost them anything to participate.

Done!
You have a tiny typo in page #4 .. It says 2013 instead of 2014.
“Are you considering trying a different escrow service in ‘2013’ that you haven’t used before?”
BTW, When will you announce the results?
Andrew Allemann says
Good catch – thanks!

Survey done. The question on the most influential person in the domain industry is tough. At the end, I picked Rick Schwartz because he writes regularly and he speaks his mind, whether you agree with him or not.

It’s funny that year after year DNF posts a link to this survey, but NOT this year, this survey is different than previous years, you can no longer cast votes for company names, which means no reward at the end of the survey that says “Were #1” . And with all the cheating that was going on, I cant say that I blame Andrew for removing them.
BTW, I voted as well, and even though Rick Schwartz comes off as arrogant, I still voted for him as the most influential person in our industry, Well deserved IMO.
Good luck with your survey Andrew!
