Laugh at .ninja no more…it will be a big business.
One of the top level domain applications that had a lot of people scratching their heads was United TLD’s application for .ninja. And while the company’s .ninja web site suggests that you might register a .ninja domain to show you’re an seo.ninja or html5.ninja, the true business plan is slowly coming out.
Take a look at the .ninja mousepad. As Name.com’s Caroline Temple mused on Facebook today:
Well, the official .ninja application does say that .ninja will be registered by “a person with special expertise or skills.”
I just didn’t understand what that meant until today.

ROFLMAO @andrew. I think Caroline is pointing out that if you get too close to that ninjas leg you might realize it’s not his leg afterall

Nice work, Caroline. Really. Demand Media should be thrilled by the exposure.

Enjoy!! While it’s difficult to write a comment – trying to beware any unintentional puns – I must say this is one new gTLD i’m excited about! I was happy to get that mousepad! It’s been one of the only TLD’s that when I explain the new gTLD concept to people outside our industry their first reactions are to guess their new .NINJA name. 🙂

What a cock-up! Artwork oversimplification can lead to such misconceptions. That, and an obviously dirty mind.

Almost two years later, I can confess that I am the one who designed that logo and your post was the source of both great amusement and consternation at Demand Media HQ. Everything else I had to do was put on hold that day till I could rapidly redesign the whole thing. Oops!
Once you see it, you can’t UNsee it, and yet none of us saw it at al till you pointed it out. It was a good lesson in unintended consequences!

That’s funny. Hey, there’s no such thing as bad press.
