Parsons is on Forbes’ latest billionaires list.
Go Daddy founder Bob Parsons is one of the 1,000 richest people in the world according to Forbes’ recently released Billionaires list.
Parsons is tied for #974 with an estimated wealth of $1.5 billion. That’s good enough for a rank of #328 in the United States.
(Parsons has disputed the $1.5 billion number with Forbes in the past.)
The bulk of that wealth came from building Go Daddy into the dominant domain name registrar and shared web hosting provider.
Prior to founding Go Daddy he built and sold a company to Intuit for $64 million. At DOMAINfest in 2011, he recounted the story of how he spent much of that money trying to figure out what his next company should be. His fortune had dwindled to a few million dollars before hitting upon the domain name business.
He then built Go Daddy into a household name, thanks in large part discount pricing, strong customer support, and to controversial Super Bowl commercials.
In 2011 the company took an investment from KKR, Silver Lake, and Technology Crossover Ventures. Through the deal Parsons remains the largest single shareholder in the company.
