Company with a fantastic domain gets a big round of equity financing.
Alarm.com, which offers wireless home security solutions and home automation, has raised $136 million in an equity round.
I’m not going to get on my high horse talking about how the company’s fantastic domain name must have helped it surge to one million customers. But it certainly helped the company with credibility when it launched in 2000. It also helps the company rank #3 on Google for “Alarm”, although I’m sure the big money term to rank for is “security alarm” or “burglar alarm”.
It’s also worth noting that the current investors acquired the company from MicroStrategy, a firm that has a nice collection of premium domain names. One example: Emma.com, which is currently subject to a lawsuit.

C’mon Andrew, you know that they would have just as likely to surge to 1 million customers had their domain been Wireless-Home-Security-Systems-And-Home-Automation.biz, you don’t get much more targeted than that!
