Alloy Entertainment wants the GossipGirl.com domain name.
Alloy Entertainment, the company behind the Gossip Girl books and TV show on CW, has filed a complaint to get the domain name GossipGirl.com.
The complaint was filed with World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) under the uniform domain name dispute resolution policy (UDRP).
The domain name was originally registered in 2004 1998. It expired earlier this year, and was then registered by someone in Greenville, Mississippi, according to whois.
The domain name receives a couple thousand unique visitors per month, according to Compete.com.
This isn’t the first time Alloy Entertainment has gone to WIPO to get a domain name. In 2009 it won a case for VampireDiaries.com.

Some hours ago I ve read on DNF a sales topic having this domain for sale:
http://www.dnforum.com/f116/gossipgirl-com-19k-unique-month-so-far-thread-480329.html
I was ready to reply about TM dangers but you were more faster and detailed than me so I ve quoted your blog post.
Be careful when buying domains…
Dave says
It’s for sale in the traffic domains section of dnforum.com. Looks like whoever owns it was trying to get rid if it quick!
Andrew Allemann says
Corrected domain registration date. Technically, now the domain was created in 2012.
Possible this guy didn’t know about the UDRP when he posted for sale. But the UDRP may state if they communicated with him prior to filing the UDRP.

What a scumbag.

The domain was created 1998 before alloy launch their business in 2000.. Get your fact ——–….
Makis.TV says
Fact is that there is a wipo for this domain therefore it shouldnt be offered for sale or at least owner should warn bidders about it.
DotCom says
The real fact is… The term “gossip girl” has been around for at least a couple decades.
Why does the WIPO panel even excist anymore? I don’t see TM cases, I see big media companies crying because they didn’t get there first.

The name dropped and was registered and auctioned here: https://www.backorderzone.com/
$6K
I looked a while ago (two weeks) and it was forwarded to a explicit porn site. That would not have helped.
Andrew Allemann says
@ Nic – yeah, may have been why they filed the UDRP.
Andrew Allemann says
@ DotCom – remember what I said about using fake email addresses?

This will be an interesting read when it comes out.
Thanks for the heads up A, always appreciated.

Andrew,
Alloy has lost a couple domain names already. I think they haven’t been keeping very good track of their portfolio and as such quite a few of their names have hit namejet and been snapped up. I myself got one.
GossipGirl is definitely not a good name to get in a drop but they have a lot of generics too that wouldn’t be subject to a UDRP.
