Major props to Sedo for a cool promotion at AdTech.
I’ve written several “Domain Dunce” posts over the past week. Perhaps a “domain accolades” in in order.
In November Sedo attended AdTech in New York City and executed what I believe to be a perfect trade show promotion. At the same time it promoted the value of buying a good domain name to thousands of ad industry professionals.
The basis of the promotion was a “guess the value” contest. People who approached the Sedo booth at the show were asked to guess how much a particular domain name sold for on Sedo. After answering the multiple choice question they could enter their contact info for a chance to win an iPad.
A couple weeks later Sedo sent out a notice to everyone that entered notifying them that a winner had been selected. The winner’s name was embedded at the end of a short video promoting the value of a good domain name.
This brought visitors full circle back to Sedo and helped promote the domain industry as a whole.
It’s smart marketing, and it benefits us all.

That is pretty smart. It would be interesting to know the domain and how much it sold compared to what people were guessing.

@ Ricc – you could select which domain you wanted to guess, and it was fairly obvious (at least to someone like me), but the point was to get people to enter.

Hi Andrew, it was great to see you at the show! Spreading awareness about the value of domains and the industry in general has always been important to Sedo as a company, and we’re flattered that our efforts were so well received this time around. Thank you for the post, and I hope we’ll see you at future shows. Best, Jackie (Marketing Team, Sedo)
