What do you think of the names and reserves in this auction?
This year’s (only) TRAFFIC conference takes place in just a couple weeks in Fort Lauderdale. It will include the first auction run exclusively by TRAFFIC without an outside domain sales company. The list of domains is still fluid, but it seems that Rick Schwartz is delivering on his word to keep reserves relatively low.
That doesn’t mean the domains will sell, though. Ultimately an auction is pretty easy to judge based on the final number. We’ll see what happens.
One observation: .com is sharing the spotlight. It accounts for 2/3rds of the domains, but .tv has a large showing with 9, followed by .xxx and .co. Depending on which domains .xxx puts in there, they could be the highlight of the show.

Gnanes says
I like power.com & optical.com
Why high reserves for camquarter.com and cloudfield.com, and movies.xxx?
dcmike77 says
It seems obvious which ones were ‘paid’ listings.
Philadelphia.org looks priced well, but then names like England.tv for $125k are just absurd. Especially when GreatBritain.tv is no reserve.
Also interesting to see OrlandoTravel.com and TravelOrlando.com in the same auction. Wondering how those will end up.
William says
Is this an April Fools Joke?
Where is the real Auction List consisting of premium .com names?
This just underscores that Rick’s awe-inspiring success is attibutable to his work ethic + ethics + “first mover” status + world-class salesmanship.
Unfortunately, Rick FAILS linguistics and is a disaster at trendspotting.
This Auction List stinks worse that rotten fish.
.TV is a bust
-ing suffix is a non-starter
-why trash-up the Ritz Carlton with .mobi vermin?
– iPerformer? …Oy vey!!!
MP3PlayerAccessories.com $40,000!!!

WoW… that is a truly sad lineup. i guess rick just decided to take the cash from the poor suckers who think their .co domains are valuable. and .xxx might be ok for niche sites but who but the truly demented pays for porn in this day and age. not lookin’ for a fight… just my opinion… other opinions may differ.
Nat says
I must say theirs some pigeon shit in their ha ha, Looks like rick has took a gamble with this new idea, He basically wanted people to post their gems with no reserves, or either pay cash for a reserve price. People look at this as a risk, looking at the list it looks like Rick does not any confidence in it thats why he has not listed any of his own domains with no reserves, So if he has no confidence why should other have confidence ? any one know
Nat says
Also ( Reserve Not Disclosed ) whats that all about, so ok before you buy a domain at auction you have to plan out the price to see if you can afford it then work out the development budget, but how can you when you see this for the reserve price ( Reserve Not Disclosed ) what a F–king joke. Thiers going to be tones of unhappy people who have bought tickets for this pigeon shit junk.
Clobert Rine says
I have to agree that the lineup is really poor. There are a few nice ones, but ones like OceanProperty, com don’t make much sense. Property on the ocean? I think beachfrontproperty, com is more appropriate. Even OceanfrontProperty, com makes more sense. I’m not sure why they’d have these types in the auction.
Also, mixing it up with .TV and .CO is great, but if you are going to do that make sure the domains are premium.
A lot more brandables in this auction also, not generics.
prosper says
if i had the money I’d go after:
NoCreditLoans.com
CertifiedUsedCars.com
MovieTheatre.com + MovieTheater.com (pair)
The .co, mobis, .tvs can take a hike in this market.
Troy says
Not what I’d expected after hearing about this auction.
Jon says
Rick likes to say that the main criteria for domain value is just looking at the name and thinking if end users would really want to build a brand with this domain. Siesta.com is the only name that fits this criteria. Maybe Optical.com for its field. The rest range from very bad to moderately bad. The .xxx, .co, and .tv domains included are just a trainwreck.
Jonathan says
Oh,not good, lots of Colombian domains & generally poor quality lower order ambiguous domains.
Jan says
Sex.Co could be interesting as a kind of valuation of the .Co domain vs. .Com. How much was Sex.Com again, 14 million?
Despite valuation, sex.co is a pretty cool name.
Jan says
Wow, SEX.CO is the one to look after for sure!
Jim says
This is basically a Snapnames auction… the good domains have ridiculous reserves, the rest of the domains are crap, which also have ridiculous reserves. People are stuck on thinking it is 2008 when they price their domains.
Mike says
Looking at the brandable names, optical is tops, protecting.me might do well as a call-to-action for marketing, while Her.co is an interesting shopping brand. ForSale.mobi is brandable for a real estate app. Power.com – big bucks undisclosed. Otherwise lots of garbage.
Brian Rees says
Some of you people are just so negative. WTF is your problem? DOT TV and DOT CO are not dead. Actually if you ask anyone who knows, those markets are very hot right now. Go read some of the forums on these extensions and see for yourself. This list of names is just about perfect for the venue of TRAFFIC in this economy and at this time. The big multi-million name deals are being done quietly these days, if at all. Many of these names @ this auction are worth between $5000 and $75000 and that is where they will sell. I would bet dollars to donuts that the people on here being the most negative are the ones without the cash to bid for ANY name. They all of a sudden are back seat driving experts with pigeon shit wallets. I also bet none of you making all the negative noise here are going to be at TRAFFIC either. True these names are not like the old days, but times change. I have a feeling this auction is going to be fun for all who are there and that the DOT TV’s and the DOT CO’s and the DOT XXX names will find nice new homes and at good prices where everyone wins. For people who know those spaces, there are some great names here. Especially the ones with no reserve. I don’t work for TRAFFIC, I just am going to do some business there and have some fun and you assholes are taking half the fun away before the thing even begins. Don’t like the names being offered? Post a better name for sale here next to your name and you will have the right to criticizes. Otherwise, spread your crap on your own plate.
Laura says
you can’t brand these?
TutoringServices.com
FortLauderdale.org
FreshVegtables.com
Verification.com
and maybe even TrainingSession.com
Emil at YA.NET says
I must agree, this is a poor selection of domain names.
Kevin Davis says
Kudos to Brian for hitting the nail on the head.So many domainer posers out there.
Sveere Mentryekno says
this list is a joke just like Rick
Boston Domainer says
Power.com and Optical.com are top. There are decent names but they are not priced adequately. I think Philadelphia.org is priced well.

OceanProperty.com Reserve under $10,000
my pick
Jim Holleran says
I agree with Brian 100%. Personally, done very well with .tv, sold many in mid-5 figures, but most were NDA but I also own one of the top .tv portfolio’s in the world. Yes I own England.tv and it’s already had offers up to $100K in the past, so we will see. It’s all about ROI, nothing more, nothing less, no matter what domains you have.
Thanks, Jim
M. Menius says
I think some of the domains listed with NO RESERVE will be purchased very cheaply.
Adam says
Siesta.com that sums it up.
siesta – noun, a nap or period of rest,
Example : during the TRAFFIC auction in Miami I had plenty of time to take a siesta
Francois says
It’s like all the major live auctions, a mix of names of different quality and reserve, all is not white or black, but gray.
The only I personally found annoying is the fact non attendees cannot bid online, but this has been largely dicussed… Hope this format will give a poor result so next time we could all bid online … LOL.
I was kidding! My best wishes of success.

Andrew Allemann says
I don’t understand Socials.com. Would you use that for a meetup kind of site? “socials” is kind of an old term. Remember ice cream socials?
Together says
We’ve sold 8 .tv’s for a total of $18,890 this year, and our portfolio is rather small (250 names, give or take).
.tv is not dead, not even close.
Emil at YA.NET says
@Andrew
Some people still hoping to a typo traffic, let’s see how much they can sell socials.com.
Cheers.
Jack says
This is truly a pathetic lineup of names for auction.
I knew nobody would pay for a listing and with no real domainers with money going to the show anymore, this is just a bunch of crap names for people with no money to look at.
Sad.
Victor Baubann says
After all the hype by Rick this list of domains is the least interesting of all the TRAFFIC auctions to date. The “exciting” new auction format is obviously not all that exciting … dsappointing is a better descriptive. I hope those people who shelled out tge entry money recoup it … So far looks like the only people walking away with smiles on their faces will be Rick and crew. IMHO
Domainer says
.tv is dead? Is that a joke or someone trying to grab some good deals by throwing some negative statements in advance?
Anders says
Pathetic.
National A-1 says
Rick is a great person and tried his best.
It is NOT his fault that domain owners will not sell for what their domains are worth.
I assume he could not get better domains at reserves that he thought were realistic. The list is mostly slop and overpriced. Any bets on what sells?
Our idea is still to charge a % of what a domain does not sell for.
So if optical does not sell for 300K or whatever the reserve is the owner pays 2% to the auction company, Rick. He does not keep it all but uses it to be able to charge less of a fee to the owner’s of domains that do sell.
This would make sellers really see what their domain is worth and they could also bid on them and pay the fee if they were the high bidder.
If they wanted a stupid number for a domain like almost all sellers did at the last major auction they would pay the % fees which would greatly reduce the commission to the domains that did sell.
An auction starts at 1.00 or some low price and not at a high price and goes down from there like is how most of the current domain auction work now. Starting high is just plain stupid. Most major non domain auctions houses set the reserves. If the seller wants more they charge a “buy-in” fee.
Donna Mahony says
@Andrew Allemann
The senior center here in town has a sign announcing weekly socials
Mansour says
This is Traffic respond when I tried to get my domain in their auction.
Attached please find our auction listing schedule. You have 2 choices: you can either pay the Listing fee with a reduced % commission upon sale on each of the domains, or not pay the listing fee and pay 15% commission upon sale. Payment of the listing fee guarantees that the domain will absolutely go into the auction and appear on our web site. If the listing fee is not paid, there is no guarantee that the domain will be listed, subject to the number of domains that DO pay the fee. Please let me know what you want to do so that I can prepare the Listing Agreement.

Kudos to Brian first of all.
There are probably only one “cast” of domainers that don’t SEE anything else but dot com’s. It’s US domainers. How many of you have top level dot com’s? One, two, three …
Why you don’t research the market? why you don’t see what’s going on?
Can’t say anything about .co, cause I have only one crappy .co name, but guys are you’re rreally blind and you don’t see what’s going on in .tv? Some tips: check DN Journal, Namepros (it’s for kids and sucks – I learned it at DNforum – but check it anyway)), Allthigs.tv. Open your eyes my friends.
tg says
haha
I love how all those .co’s are randomly scattered in the mix, real subtle. This lineup is awful.
