Company adds another international office.
Domain name aftermarket and parking company Sedo announced it is opening an office in the United Kingdom. The office will originally be located in Reading, Berks. It will relocate to London in mid-2008.
Sedo is based in Germany and opened its United States office in Boston in 2005.
The company has increased efforts in the UK market over the past few years. In 2004 it acquired the domain name Domain.co.uk, which forwards to Sedo’s marketplace. In September of this year the company held a live UK domain auction that sold about $400,000 (U.S. dollar equivalent) in domains. Among the sales at the event were Fly.co.uk £87,500 (Sedo’s biggest public .co.uk sale ever at the time) and Employment.co.uk for £17,000. Since that event, Sedo sold Mobile.co.uk for £120,000. (Currently, £1 is approximately equal to $2 USD).
In November, Recycle.co.uk sold for £150,000 in a private sale.
Sedo’s decision to open a UK office probably wasn’t hurt by the fact that mTLD, the registry for .mobi, is based in Ireland. mTLD has become a close partner to Sedo because of its success auctioning premium .mobi domains through its web site.
