Auction sells 34 domains including Perth.com for $200,000.
Moniker’s first ever GeoDomain live auction sold $479,550 worth of domains. But this is an auction where the silent portion may out perform the live one. The live auction was at the Associated Cities GeoDomain Conference in San Francisco on Saturday. The conference only attracted people specialized in local and geo domains, so many of Moniker’s typical big bidders were absent. But you can expect these big players to get in on the silent auction.
The big winner was Perth.com at $200,000. Bidding stalled out in the low $100,000s before jumping up to the final sale price. Perth is the capital and largest city in Western Australia with about 1.5 million residents.

According to DomainBits, two of my domains received attention. SanFrancisco.us was bidded to $25,000, just below the reserve. The sale of SanFranciscoCalifornia.us at $4,000, coupled with the recent sale of Nashville.us at $23,000, makes me believe my reserve on this domain is reasonable. KansasCity.us was bidded to $7,000, also just below the reserve. I haven’t watched the entire video feed yet, so I can’t confirm these. Several of the prices listed on DomainBits don’t match Moniker’s final tally, but there was probably some after-auction negotation.
The silent auction runs through Wednesday, November 28.
DR.DOMAIN says
213 and 408.com are UNDER-VALUED.
Jeff says
Great roundup Andrew. It does look like there was some post-auction activity. For instance, during the auction Fresno.us was passed at $3,000 and now it looks like it sold for $4,800.
I hope that you get the prices you are looking for on your domains!
Andrew says
Yes, Jeff, Fresno.us was one I specifically saw. Good job on your post.
Andrew says
213.com and 408.com…Los Angeles and San Jose respectively…very nice domains. But I haven’t seen many successful area code domains. I looked into buying 512 once (Austin). The seller asked for $20k. Many big cities have a couple area codes, which makes it harder to brand with it.
M. Menius says
SanFrancisco.US – What a great name! Easily worth much more than 25k. I’d be fine to sit on that one, no hurry. Huge population, many businesses/real estate companies, tech, tourism. Matter of time.
Gene Downs says
I thought Perth.com was worth a lot more than $200k , maybe it did not have a lot of exposure before the auction. I bet the buyer is pleased.
