Ulta-fast domain lookup tool shows promise.
An ultra-fast domain lookup tool covering everything from .com to .mobi has launched. DomainScour.com was developed by Ninjamuk, a web development company based in Michigan.
Currently in alpha, DomainScour has a ways to go before it rivals other domain search tools. But it shows lots of promise, particularly for its lightning fast domain lookup (including .mobi) and fast whois checks.
As soon as you start typing in the search field, DomainScour starts pulling up results. The site tells you if the domain is available, gives one click, in-site access to the whois record, and allows you to add domains to a favorites list. You can also click to register the domain, which currently uses and affiliate link to send you to GoDaddy.
In my tests, the whois information doesn’t usually include the registrant name, but does include the top level information about registration date, expiration date, and registrar. When I added domains to my favorites list, I couldn’t see the domain extension on the list. But hey, that’s what an alpha is all about. I’m sure they’ll work out the kinks soon.
Another neat feature is the Domain Hacks tool, which shows you ways to make the domain you typed using alternative endings, such as do.mainna.me for “domain name”.
So far, DomainScour doesn’t offer anything you can’t find at other lookup tools, but I’m impressed with its speed and potential. As always, use caution when using a third party lookup tool as data about your queries can be captured.
