Widespread snow brings travel to a halt.
Domainers heading to Domainer Mardi Gras in New Orleans are facing a big obstacle: lots and lots of snow.
Domain Name attorney John Berryhill had to call it quits after the Philadelphia airport shut down. “It is really difficult to describe the weather situation here,” Berryhill wrote in an email. “I’ve lived here all my life and I’ve seen plenty of snow. This is an ungodly amount of snow.”
Lest you think Berryhill is just wimping out on Mardi Gras, he sent a few pictures along:
The first picture is of a deck covered in snow. The railing you see is waist high. In the second picture, Berryhill claims there’s a car underneath all of that snow.
With snow stretching up and down the east coast, travelers from Washington D.C. and New York are also facing challenges. Ken Hansen of Neustar is trying to make the trek from D.C. Both Berryhill and Hansen are on a panel I’m moderating tomorrow about new top level domain names. We’re going to try to work out a technical solution to include any panelists who can’t make it.
Believe it or not, even my trip from Austin to New Orleans won’t be easy. I have to fly through Dallas, where it’s currently snowing.

Snowing in Dallas! So much for that global warming nonsense.
Andrew Allemann says
@ Ted – my flight through Dallas was just canceled.
Acro says
Andrew – At first I thought you were writing a “DomainGang” post but the situation does seem serious. Stay safe and keep us updated.
Andrew Allemann says
Well, my flight is canceled. It’s about an 8 hour drive, so I’m going to just make the drive over there.
David J Castello says
We’re (finally) boarding now in NYC.
Anunt says
We hope some snow comes our way here in ATL.
John Berryhill says
“Snowing in Dallas!”
And, notably, not in Vancouver:

David – Safe travels… lucky you changed your flight when you did. I wish I had booked my flight on Continental – or I had left on Tuesday night instead! The party was fun though.
Frank Michlick (Domain Name News) says
Safe travels everyone!
Morgan says
Safe travels – hard to imagine there’s snow anywhere while it is sunny in here LA!!

What a mess. We actually got lucky up here in Massachusetts.
Would someone call Al Gore and ask him if the earth still has a “fever”?
Michael Ward says
We will have the crawfish and drinks waiting for everyone tonight. Safe travels wherever you are coming from. I sent out a message to all attendees with my cell phone number on it. Call me with any questions.
