This domain name gets a ton of misdirected email.
Yesterday, I wrote about the traffic and purchase inquiries that MarTech.com gets.
It reminded me of another domain name that gets a lot of traffic and offers to purchase: Gail.com.
That’s just one letter off from Gmail.com.
And, according to the owners, it gets a ton of traffic and misdirected emails.
In 2015 it received an average of 5,000 visits a day. More sensational is that it gets 1.2 million misdirected emails per week.
(I emailed the owners about a month ago for updated numbers but did not hear back.)
The owners fought off a UDRP brought by a Brazilian company in 2006.
According to an FAQ on the site, the owners aren’t interested in selling the domain or monetizing it. They could make a lot of money monetizing it with an email data firm!
Forget about the email data firm, the traffic is what I’d like.
Now check out Gamil (.)com https://domaingang.com/domain-news/gamil-com-worlds-best-google-gmail-anagram-is-a-real-business/
GAIL could be -: GAIL (India) Limited | Home: – and also GAIL is a fictional character from the graphic novel Sin City by Frank Miller. In the film of 2005 is interpreted by Rosario Dawson.
Happy Day. Jose.
You’re absolutely Correct Sir. GAIL is Gas Authority of India Limited from Government of India.
This Domain has multiple reasons for having Heavy Traffic.
Well, good luck to anybody going after the name under UDRP. Gail is a common term as well as a regular name. Why they don’t want to monetize it is beyond me. But then again, the owners may be fearing an action by Google because of Gmail.
Pretty clear from the FAQ why they’re not interested in monetization. The domain also predates Gmail so why should they or anyone care?
Maybe I missed it, but I didn’t see anything indicating why.
Great information. He got fortunate so that why.. Thanks for sharing this..
I got a domain like that it also gets lot of traffic. You will write more articles about it. It will help to us..
It’s a great Example of choosing, though I’m not sure is this accidental or not, a Good Domain name. And Congrats to that lucky owner.
Really get accidental traffic
“They could make a lot of money monetizing it with an email data firm!”
Parking ads is one thing but monetizing off misspelled email people sent?
Come on.
Shout-out to the domain owner for doing the right thing and not selling the domain to someone only caring about their bottom line.
Monetizing the email data wouldn’t negatively impact anyone. It would just be used to figure out how many commercial email senders are sending mail to the wrong address. They could donate all of the money they make to EFF.
