This company’s decision to use a .net domain is a mistake.
I was cleaning out my inbox this afternoon when I came across two emails from my daughter’s school about student photos.
The first email announced that school photos were in and we can order copies from the photography company Strawbridge at Strawbridge.com.
Shortly thereafter, the second email arrived stating — oops! — it’s Strawbridge.net.
Strawbridge.com is owned by Macy’s (here’s why).
I think the photography company’s decision to use Strawbridge.net is a mistake. Its formal company name is Strawbridge Studios. They could buy StrawbridgeStudios.com on Afternic for only $1,816. It’s a bit longer but is less likely to lead to confusion.
Even a new TLD choice like Strawbridge.photos is less likely to lead to confusion than using the .net.
Or perhaps, since Macy’s no longer uses the Strawbridge brand, the photography company should try to work out a deal with the struggling department store.

Why is StrawbridgeStudios.com on Afternic? That seems like an interesting question.
Andrew Allemann says
Definitely one they can win at UDRP if they’d prefer to take that approach. In this case buying would be faster and cheaper.

dot photos, ya that’ll help clear up confusion. Nothing beats the dot com, all others will be sub par, the afternic tip is their best option.
Andrew Allemann says
Between net and a new TLD, I think a new TLD will stand out more reducing the chances of confusion
Captain Obvious says
JP is right. A “dot stupidity” will not solve the confusion problem at hand.
Setg says
Ha! Dot Photos. Yeah, right. Thanks for the laugh. If they want to be taken seriously, they need to have a .com
THCNames.com says
I disagree. Going with Strawbridge.net is wayyy better than a new gTLD. What if Donuts decided to mark that as a premium renewal Andrew? You want to be the registrar in that situation?
Nick says
I agree, plus on top of that end users are lazy and would never type in the crazy long photography extension
Nick says
and if you really what to confuse people get a “.photoS” and have your uses go to the “.photo” website instead

“Even a new TLD choice like Strawbridge.photos is less likely to lead to confusion than using the .net.”
That is funny. Most people shouldn’t even know Strawbridge.photos is a url.
Jebidiah says
Strawbridge.Studio would be the best choice for them. No confusion to the .com, it already pulls up that way in search tools, and simply put, it IS their brand.
Wyatt says
Anything with a .crap will fail every time and under any circumstance.
