Legendary domain investor Frank Schilling explains where new TLDs fit into the domain market.
Last week’s Domain Name Wire Podcast was the most popular yet. With this week’s guest, we might make that happen two weeks in a row.
Frank Schilling comes on the show this week to discuss why he decided to shift his lifestyle from a relaxing one of managing his own domain name portfolio to starting a number of domain name services businesses. He also explains why he applied for new top level domain names and what impact he thinks they’ll have on his (and your) .com domain name portfolio.
Also: Inside Rightside’s business, more registrar woes and a million dollar domain name sale.

Thanks gentlemen. This has to be the best podcast I’ve listened to on DNW. I’m most impressed with Andrew’s intelligent and probing questions. They really drew out Frank’s thoughts and opinions. Frank has shown me that while .com is still king, there are also small groups of names (the cream) in new gTLDs worth mining, as long as we can get the names at low reg fees with fixed renewal costs. Also, it’s interesting to learn that Siri etc. will actually be good for long-tail, meaningful .com names but not good for short but typo names. Overall, great interview. Thanks for the hard work.

Wow. Great Qs and As! Thanks to both you, Andrew, and Frank for this interview. I especially enjoyed very much Frank’s answers to your questions (starting at about 35:30) re his selling .com names cheaper due to new TLDs coming out.

Paul, I must have edited out the part where he said he was selling domains so he would have enough money to beat Donuts in domain name auctions.
