Domains suggest which cities might get XFL football teams

by Andrew Allemann — November 30, 2018 Uncategorized 3 Comments

21 cities are likely in the running for football teams.

In which cities will the new, faster version of American football land? Some domain name registrations are a good hint at possible cities.

XFL is a new (again) football league that wants to reimagine the sport. WWE chairman Vince McMahon tried to launch the XFL in 2001 and it failed. Now it’s time for another go with a season starting in 2020.

“We are given a game that lacks rhythm and has been overtaken by commercials, timeouts, complex rules and analysis,” its website at XFL.com states about the NFL.

The league will hold a press conference on December 5 to unveil first-year cities. Yesterday the league registered a bunch of domain names for possible cities. The domains take the format of CityXFL.com, XFLCity.com and XFLCityAbbreviation.com.

For example, it registered AtlantaXFL.com, XFLAtlanta.com, and XFLAtl.com. Here are the cities that associated names were registered for:

Atlanta
Austin
Chicago
Cleveland
Dallas/Arlington
Detroit
Houston
KansasCity
Los Angeles
Minnesota
Nashville
NewYork
Orlando
Philadelphia
Phoenix
Pittsburgh
San Francisco
Seattle
St. Louis
Washington DC
Tampa Bay

While the league is unlikely to launch that many cities at first (the plan is eight cities), it is likely that the planned cities are on the list.
