Undeveloped rebrands to DAN.com, uses blockchain for transfers

by Andrew Allemann — June 19, 2019 Services 1 Comment

Company leverages blockchain technology to speed domain purchases and transfers.

DAN Bot is a new conversation-style domain transfer agent from DAN.com, formerly known as Undeveloped

DAN bot is part of DAN.com’s blockchain-based domain transfer and escrow system.

Domain name sales platform Undeveloped has rebranded as DAN.com and introduced a new blockchain-based domain transfer system.

The new transfer system is aided by DAN bot, which is short for Domain Automation Network. The conversation-based transfer concierge manages the escrow based on where the domain is registered and the unique characteristics of that registrar:

The moment you purchase a domain, the DAN bot knows exactly at which registrar the domain is registered, if the domain is locked and which transfer options are available per registrar.

We have designed DAN in such a way that DAN even knows what the good and less well-designed processes of the managing registrar are.

By doing this, you, the buyer will always receive transfer instructions that are tailored for your transaction which saves a lot of time and frustration. Anyone without any domain expertise can now benefit from a painless, smooth and swift transaction.

According to DAN.com, unlocked domains can be transferred in 5-15 minutes, or instantaneously if they are in the DAN network.

DAN.com worked with IBM to build its blockchain. Anyone can see the blockchain and view recent transactions and sales at explorer.dan.com.

The company says its new platform will enable faster transfers and better liquidity. It will open it to other people who want to build a service and tap into its transfer and escrow services.

It should also make domain leasing and fractional domain ownership easier. DAN.com has plans for fractional ownership that it will release later this year.

The company bought the Dan.com domain name last year for $190,000.

Radix to “rent” some premium domains by the month through Undeveloped

by Andrew Allemann — January 25, 2017 Services 16 Comments

Undeveloped tests domain leasing offering.

New top level domain name company Radix has teamed up with domain marketplace Undeveloped to sell some of its premium domain inventory by the month.

Called “Domain Rental Market”, some of the domains Radix reserved from registration are now available to rent by the month. It’s a lot cheaper than buying the domains outright, but still not cheap.

For example, you can rent Toy.store, Carpets.store, Gift.store, Pet.store or Book.store for $6,667 a month.

While you might be smirking at these ridiculous prices, the good news is that the Radix deal is a test before Undeveloped rolls the rental option out to other sellers.

Also known as domain leasing in domainer circles, offering lease-to-buy and monthly payment options to domain buyers is becoming a popular way to bridge the divide between what domain owners want for their domains and what buyers can afford. It’s good to see another marketplace testing out a leasing solution.

Undeveloped takes a fresh approach to selling domain names

by Andrew Allemann — February 29, 2016 Domain Sales 15 Comments

Domain name marketplace is trying to improve the process of buying and selling domain names.

An example Undeveloped lander.

If you aren’t happy with current domain name marketplaces, the simplest thing to do would be just to complain. On the other end of the spectrum, you could build your own competing domain name marketplace.

That’s exactly what the founders of Undeveloped.com decided to do.

Co-founder Reza Sardeha explained that he was unhappy with existing marketplaces and wanted to come at domain selling from a fresh perspective.

“From a seller perspective, we wanted to make domain trading easier,” he said. “We wanted a platform that was solely based on selling, rather than monetizing. We really didn’t see anything out there that would allow you to become a good seller.”

Once Undeveloped launched in 2014, the company realized it needed to put much more focus on domain buyers.

“If you want to build a very liquid marketplace, you should start including the buyer side,” said Reza. “Without buyers you can have the most amazing domains, but you won’t sell them.”

So Undeveloped worked to create a more transparent marketplace that would make buyers comfortable acquiring domains on the secondary market. Click here to read more about Undeveloped…
