INWX Domains GmbH, a domain name registrar based in Berlin, announced that it has applied for the .crew top level domains.
The company stated the domain is:
for groups that achieve things together: esports and gaming teams, film and production crews, clubs and associations, music and creative collectives, sailing crews and sports teams, as well as start-ups and project teams. The term is understood internationally and stands for team spirit and working together.
The closest existing top level domain is probably .team, which has about 65,000 registrations. Another competitor is .club, which has over 500,000 registrations.
Speaking of competition, INWX will likely face competition to get the domain name. ShortDot announced .crew among its applications, although it’s not clear if it’s a primary or replacement string.
INWX Domains has more than 600,000 domains under management.
