The Netherlands will have three local TLDs.
Twente, a region in eastern Netherlands, is getting its own top level domain.
Dotlocal announced it submitted an application for .twente in this year’s top level domain expansion round.
Twente has over 600,000 residents.
Dotlocal applied for .amsterdam in the last round. That namespace currently has about 18,000 registrations.
When the Dutch province of Friesland decided to throw in the towel on its domain .frl, Dotlocal stepped in to take over the domain. .Frl has about 10,000 registrations.
Friesland has a population similar to Twente, so it should be a good comp.
The company hopes to launch the domain in late 2027 or early 2028 if all goes well.

.frl is the comp everyone’s gonna watch this against I think. 10k regs after however many years isn’t nothing but it’s not huge either. Twente’s got the population for it to do better honestly, just depends if Dotlocal can actually get local businesses on board and not just sit on defensive regs.
