Spaceship’s founder called out a fake sales post on X this week.
Earlier this week, a user on X posted about a big domain sale on Spaceship.
“Tom Adams” claimed to have sold thread .pics for $87,000, and even showed the sales email to prove it:

It was a shockingly high sale…and it didn’t happen.
Spaceship founder Richard Kirkendall commented on Tom’s X post, saying there was no such transaction on Spaceship.
Shortly afterward, the X account that posted the sale was deleted.
People can easily fabricate sale emails, especially with AI.
As for motive, it seems this user was trying to get someone to bite on the plural version, threads .pics, which he promoted as still available.
Others may post fake notices to try to pump particular top level domains.
It’s a shame, because many people post real sales on X, and it’s a good way to see what’s selling.
Some advice: don’t take a random X account at its word. There are trustworthy people who post sales, but look into each account you follow before taking posts at face value.
