Company that owns Epik domain registrar throws its hat into the top level domain ring.
Registered Agents Inc. has applied for six top level domains, the company announced today.
The company disclosed that it applied for .epic, .identity, .mark, .private, .registeredagent, and .verified.
While the name Registered Agents Inc might not be familiar to many, Chris Ambler is running the domain initiative. Ambler proposed the .web top level domain over three decades ago. It also owns the domain registrar Epik.
Ambler, who previously worked for GoDaddy, joined in 2022 to take over the struggling Epik domain registrar, which Registered Agents acquired.
In addition to applying for the top level domains, Registered Agents also announced Astronym Registry. This backend registry provider has applied with ICANN to be an approved Registry Service Provider.
Astronym hopes to be the backend service provider for more than just Registered Agents’ domains.
Some of the company’s domain applications will likely be in contention. Other companies have announced plans for .epic, .mark, and .private.
The company’s choice of .epic is interesting, given that the name of its domain registrar is Epik.
This is at least the third group to announce an application for .private – do you think ICANN might be hesitant about delegating it considering it was one of the contenders for being reserved as the private-use TLD, even if they ultimate settled on .internal?
