A 10% price increase takes effect in March.
Verisign (NASDAQ: VRSN) announced today that it is increasing the wholesale cost of .net domain names next year.
On March 1, 2027, the company will raise the price by 10% from $10.91 to $12.00.
With 12.6 million registered .net domains, this means an additional $13.75 million or so per year will fall directly to Verisign’s bottom line.
Customers can expect to pay an additional 20 cents in ICANN fees, plus whatever their registrar charges as markup.
Registrants can avoid the fee increase for up to a decade by renewing their domains before March 1, 2027.
Later this year, Verisign will introduce .web domains. The company hasn’t announced pricing for .web yet.

Minor thing: The ICANN fee for .net domains is $0.75 for some reason, so registrants will pay at least $12.75, unless that’s changing?
ICANN doesn’t seem to have published this price increase to the registry page yet, but e.g. the last one at said so.
That’s how much Verisign pays ICANN in fees, not how much ICANN collects from domain registrars for each registration. So the .75 is Verisign’s direct cost per registered domain.
