Investors are likely to see much higher valuations.
GoDaddy has finally launched its updated GoValue domain appraisal system.
Updated appraisals are currently available individually with a daily limit.
Over time, GoDaddy will introduce the new values in the GoDaddy search path and provide them in account interfaces.
As a general rule, the new values seem significantly higher than the old ones.
This is especially true in some top level domains, such as .ai. One of my .ai domains changed from less than $100 to close to $60,000.
GoDaddy ran about 40 of my names through the system, and the median increase was over 11x. However, many of the domains in the batch were those most likely to be impacted by the valuation change (e.g., one word domains, .ai, .io, etc.).
Some people might see value reductions or little change depending on what’s in their portfolio.
Domain investors will love it if their valuations are higher. The long-run question is how much respect end users will give to these numbers.
But at a minimum, it reduces the number of buyers who can cite low GoDaddy appraisals as a negotiating tactic.
It will also be interesting to see whether the higher valuations impact expired domain auction prices when they roll out to that channel.
GoDaddy has also increased the limit on domain valuations from $25,000 to $1 million.

I wrote this under an Aug 10 thread about that at TheDomains:
“Do you think GoDaddy should just get out of the appraisal business?”
Yes, it’s beyond stupid and beyond shortsighted. Also, goes without saying, an appalling abomination.
So so stupid.
Just felt like checking out TheDomains tonight and glad I did. Literally just recently encountered what GoDaddy is doing for the “appraisal” of some of my best domains – so insane. Incredibly ignorant and uninformed too, unless simply straight up lying, which these days is certainly a main primary possibility too.
To recap – I started in “domaining” about 25 years ago but over time became 99.9% end user/buyer, which is where I am now. But I like to check domain news and the major blogs and comment in them. I would also still be interested in selling a few, but only for an honest price.
GoDaddy should stop it, so should Dynadot, and every other registrar doing it. But of course we know it’s 99.9 x 99.9% certain most or all will only double down and never do that.
It has been harmful and destructive, and while they may think it has helped their own interests – just as Esau sold his birthright for a meal – that is shallow, shortsighted and mistaken.
It’s tempting to tell you a great secret about how one can sometimes exploit and benefit despite this appalling and abominable status quo they themselves have imposed, however, including also the likes of Estibot, but perhaps another time.
So much harm to everyone around, including themselves but especially small business owners and investors – especially everyone else. Both Jacob pre-transformation, and Esau.
Excellent!!! Now my worthless domain will be worth $10k instead of just $1k. Party time!
And to use their rubbish valuation tool for appraising 1000 domains a day, one needs to pay $99.99/mo and for +5000 valuations p/day, it will cost $499.99/mo.
I wonder who in their right senses would even pay for the basic plan. All automated appraisal tools are worthless and misguiding to say the least.
Hey AbdulBasit, happy to share more details here from GoDaddy.
The GoValue model has been completely rebuilt from the ground up with new data, new training methodology, and new tech. Because of this, we’re being very deliberate and methodical with the rollout.
GoValue’s page was the starting point. Next, this update is heading to Afternic’s seller UI to replace the previous version there. After that, it’ll roll out to Auctions, Portfolio Manager, and Domain Academy (where you’ll be able to use the new system in bulk).
The rollout is phased, and we’ll keep the community updated as new areas switch over. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to me.
I test checked 3 domains which is the limit and all the values were way too low. I’m sure the valuations now it will show will be overall higher than before which may result in more sales for the domain owners. However, I don’t see any of the automated appraisal tools to be of genuine help and making anyone better with their valuations and learning.
Updated appraisals in Godaddy search path and Afternic UI will be very helpful for domain investors.
You need to bring back the API that you took away from dan.com – it’s not right that it’s restricted to special high-value partners on Afternic. Everyone should get the same access. Plus, don’t you want to sell more domain names? If you did that, you would sell more domains.
Finally! These new, correct domain appraisals, are a loonnnggg time coming, years!
