Asia accounted for about half of Dynadot’s registrations, but its growth is slower than in other regions.

Dynadot recently published its Q1 Quarterly Intelligence Report. With the second quarter already closed, it’s a bit dated. But digging through the numbers, some interesting data points probably haven’t changed much since then.
Here are some interesting takeaways:
- Registrations at Dynadot were up 40% year over year. The fastest-growing TLDs at Dynadot are ones offered at discounted first-year prices, including .digital, .info, .pro, and .sbs. .Com remains the most-registered, however. It was up 9% year over year.
- Asia accounted for a whopping 46% of Dynadot’s registrations. I had no idea how big the registrar was there. However, Asia’s growth was only 5%. Europe, which accounted for 24% of Dynadot’s registrations, grew 147%. North America, which accounts for 23%, grew 63%. This seems like a healthy trend; Verisign reports that Asia is inconsistent for .com/.net registrations.
- Dynadot breaks out its customer base between domain investors and retail customers. .Com is the first choice among both, but it diverges from there. .Top is the second-biggest for investors, followed by .info and .vip. (I believe these are all popular in China.) On the retail side, .digital and .sbs followed .com.
- .Com domains accounted for 77% of aftermarket activity at Dynadot in Q1 and was up 54% year over year. The next highest was .org at 5%.
- Most customers at all registrars choose one-year registrations. Notably, .dev leads the way for multi-year initial registrations at Dynadot. Still, only 5% of .dev registrations are for more than one year.
