ICANN’s latest tax return shows data on highly paid employees and contractors.

ICANN has published its 2025 tax return (pdf) for the tax year ending June 30, 2025.
The return shows that revenue was down about $10 million from the prior tax year, with about half of the drop attributable to lower program service revenue and the other half to lower investment income.
On a tax basis, ICANN lost about $12 million during the year.
The highest-paid employee was Sally Costerton, who served as interim president & CEO through the end of 2024. Her reportable compensation was $921,000.
General counsel John Jeffrey was the next-highest-paid at $772,000, plus $83,000 in other compensation.
Including other compensation, nine people made $500,000 or more.
ICANN paid its outside law firm, Jones Day, $3.9 million for services, according to the return. ICANN paid 136 contractors $100,000 or more.

Any idea what all those contractors did for them Andrew?…
I believe it’s a combination of outside firms (think tech providers or even janitors) and people who effectively work for the firm but work through contracts instead of regular employment.
Thanks. They must have a few well-paid janitors. 😉
Well, I mean like a janitorial firm 🙂
This are very normal and extremely deserved janitor salaries. Move along, nothing to see here everybody.

Fair enough. That does potentially make a difference. 🙂
