Super-cheap registrations to be replaced with still cheap registrations.
I don’t usually write about domain registrars changing prices, but an update from Unstoppable Domains is newsworthy.
The registrar has attracted significant attention from domain investors over the past year due to its low pricing. For a while, it was just $5 to register new .com domains on Fridays, and investors who joined its free “Domainer Club” got this pricing every day of the week. Recently, it raised this from $5 to $5.99.
On this week’s podcast, Unstoppable CEO Matthew Gould said pricing would change again soon, and now we have the details.
On X today, Unstoppable’s Brady Anthony-Brumfield announced the new pricing that begins in early March. [Update: the price increase is March 9.]
The Friday-only discounts will be gone in favor of everyday pricing.
New .coms will be $7.99, with a limit of 10 a day for non-Domainer Club registrants. Those who join the free club get this price for up to 700 domains a week.
The registrar will also continue to offer transfer-in discounts. Domainer Club members get the first 1,000 transfers for $7.99, the next 1,000 for $8.99, and up to 45,000 more for $9.99.
Unstoppable is also lowering its .com renewal price to $10.99.
While the prices are higher than before, they remain very competitive. I suspect we’ll continue to see new registration discounts from other registrars in the $7 range this year, but it’s nice that Unstoppable’s pricing is every day and doesn’t require coupons.
For those who received the $500 credit for attending last month’s Internet Commerce Association meeting, you might want to use that credit before prices increase next month.
