Anguilla’s country code domain name continues to generate wealth for the island.

The government of Anguilla announced on Facebook that the .ai namespace has surpassed one million domain names.
It’s the first official update on the size of .ai since January 2, 2025, when the official count was 598,007. This means that .ai domains under management increased by about 67% over the past year.
.Ai has been a boon for the tiny British overseas territory of about 15,000 people. At-cost domain name registrars charge about $70 for the domain, suggesting that the domain wholesales for $140 for the required two-year registration period. Identity Digital, which manages the namespace, takes 10%, and the remaining funds flow to Anguilla’s government.
For context, Anguilla’s total government revenue in 2026 is expected to be about $220 million.
Much like oil generates a couple of thousand dollars per Alaska resident, .ai domains generate thousands of dollars per Anguilla resident each year.
In the Facebook post, the government stated:
Revenue generated from .ai domain registrations has directly supported major national development projects in Anguilla, including airport and road development, tax relief for locals and increased health services for the young and elderly. These investments are enhancing connectivity, strengthening economic resilience, and improving quality of life for residents and visitors alike.

It’s a good domain, but a bit expensive. They could remove the 2-year registration.
