Domain registrar GoDaddy is adjusting to the end of AdSense for Domains.
When Google AdSense for Domains went away last year, it created a particular challenge for domain name registrars.
For decades, registrars have monetized domains that their customers have registered but have not put to use. The “coming soon” pages typically included a list of relevant keywords, similar to traditional parked domains.
AdSense for Domains was perfect for this, but no longer generates revenue.
The alternative many parking companies are turning to is Google Related Search for Content (RSOC).
RSOC requires domains to have content in order to show ads. So how can a registrar monetize coming soon pages that don’t have content?
GoDaddy appears to be doing this through the domain SearchHounds.com.
While researching today, I found multiple domains that forwarded to pages on SearchHounds.
These pages on SearchHounds include a bit of content and a list of related searches. When someone clicks on a related search, it shows more thin content that includes Google ads.
GoDaddy appears to have activated SearchHounds shortly after AdSense went away in September last year.
