Move comes ahead of more top level domain expansion.
Ethos Capital, the private equity firm that acquired a majority stake in Identity Digital in 2021, announced a new funding round for the company today.
Ethos completed a continuation vehicle (CV) transaction for Identity Digital, bringing in institutional investors including TPG GP Solutions, funds managed by Neuberger, Accel-KKR, Coller Capital, CVC Secondary Partners, British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (BCI) and 10 East, among others.
The firm said the transaction “enables Ethos to support Identity Digital’s next stage of growth, while offering existing investors the opportunity for liquidity.”
The move comes ahead of next year’s new top level domain name application window. Identity Digital was the largest applicant in the 2012 round of new top level domain expansion, and is widely expected to apply for many domains in the 2026 round.
Some of Identity Digital’s more popular top level domains are .live, .today, .life, and .world. It also acts as a registry services provider or partner for .org, .ai, .io, and more.
