Watch out for hotel pirates.

NamesCon is about 10 weeks away, and it’s time to secure your hotel room if you’re attending this year’s event in Miami.
As is common with conferences, “hotel pirates” are contacting NamesCon attendees, trying to trick them into booking hotel rooms through them.
These pirates pretend to be associated with the conference and divert people to book hotel rooms through their links. The pirates either earn commissions on the bookings or, in some cases, sell fake bookings.
A NamesCon attendee received an email yesterday that read:
We’re currently finalizing accommodations and wanted to check in to see how many rooms you might need. Our remaining room blocks at the headquarter hotels are limited, so we wanted to give you the opportunity to secure your rooms before they fill up. If you’d like to proceed, you can choose a hotel from the list below and complete the booking form below at your convenience.
If you’re attending the show and want to stay at the official hotel (Miami Marriott Biscayne Bay), only book through NamesCon’s link on this page.
The least expensive rooms on the hotel room block right now are $219 plus a $35 amenity fee. (Hotels now must show their amenity fee in the online price, but apparently this doesn’t apply to room blocks. Or Marriott is breaking the rules.)
That’s a good deal compared to booking directly with the hotel, where rooms currently start at $600 per night.
There are other hotels in the area, but NamesCon will be running shuttles directly from the Ice Palace venue to the Marriott.
