One of my favorite interviews on the Domain Name Wire Podcast was from 2016, when I interviewed DNS inventor Paul Mockapetris.
On today’s show, I’m replaying that interview. You’ll hear about the early days of the DNS, including why it was created. Paul also confirmed that some people thought .com would be a failure as a top level domain.

Paul Mockapetris was asked, what do you wish you had invented? He replied, “A directory system for the Internet that wouldn’t be controlled by the politicians, lawyers and bureaucrats.”
There is no tort – yet UN WIPO can take domains from registered owners to give to big business for cash – domains like JT.com which can be used for anything legal.
It is why I got WIPO.org.uk when they have WIPO.org – to challenge them. They are too cowardly to try refute my claims.
