Ecommerce business forks over seven figures for domain name.
BigCommerce (Nasdaq: BIGC), the Shopify competitor that helps customers sell stuff online, purchased a domain name for $2.444 million in Q1.
The company disclosed the purchase in its financial results for Q1 published yesterday.
While the company did not disclose what the domain name was, I suspect it was commerce.com.
In February, DNJournal reported that Larry Fischer and Ari Goldberger had teamed up to sell the domain name for $2.2 million. With commissions, the buyer could have easily paid the $2.444 million BigCommerce reported.
Furthermore, according to historical records at Tucows, commerce.com transferred from Tucows to SafeNames in Q1. SafeNames is the registrar that BigCommerce uses for its main domain name, BigCommerce.com.
Commerce.com does not currently resolve to a website.

Domains are like locations in real estate — sometimes worth more than the house that stands on them. It would be nice to know exactly what they bought?
I think you really meant, “With commissions, the BUYER could have easily paid…”
Thanks for catching that, Bill.
The Competitor of Shopify.com really deserve this single word domain if they want to compete Shopify.com because Commerce.com it’s total credibility.
