The legacy .su domain name, .co, and more top stories from last month.
1. ICANN moves to retire Soviet-era .SU country domain name – Both ICANN and the .su registry have responded by saying that the formal process hasn’t started. And that’s true — what I reported is that ICANN sent a letter to .su saying it was going to start the formal process. It didn’t follow the timeline it set out in the letter, and I suspect geopolitical tensions are at play.
2. 13 domains end users just bought – Do you read my weekly reports of domains end users purchased at Sedo? One of these posts was very popular last month.
3. Colombia puts .co domain contract out for bid – The country has a short timeline for awarding a ten-year contract to operate the domain. GoDaddy Registry currently operates the domain.
4. Snoop Dogg wins cybersquatting dispute – Someone in Ukraine used the domain in a rather peculiar way.
5. Ohio company tries to hijack domains from IBM – It wanted resource .com for free.
