New team launches domain registrar that will offer marketplace and monetization.
I’ve been a bit bewildered by .shop suddenly hiring lots of industry talent many years after the top level domain launched.
This week at the ICANN meeting in Seattle, the move made much more sense as .shop’s parent company, GMO Internet Group, made a major announcement.
The recently hired team, which includes Christian Voss, Claus Barche, Birgit Berger, Frank Michlick, and Michael Piotrowski, is working on Taku, a domain registrar and marketplace.
Taku will offer domain registration, domain sales, and monetization.
The platform will start a closed beta in the coming weeks.
GMO Internet Group is a publicly traded company based in Japan. Its brands include Z.com, Onamae.com, and the .shop registry, among others.
