New group will focus on improving practices at hosting companies.

This week, i2Coalition (Internet Infrastructure Coalition) announced its new Secure Hosting Alliance, which the organization says will “strengthen and improve the hosting and cloud landscape by fostering trust, advocating for fair policies, and safeguarding an open and accessible Internet for everyone.”
The group will develop standards focused on security, privacy, abuse prevention, and transparency.
Twenty-three hosting companies are on board at the start, including GoDaddy and Automattic.
i2Coalition was founded in 2012 during the SOPA and PIPA debates. These were proposed intellectual property laws that would have caused major disruptions to web hosting businesses.
In 2020, Domain Name Association merged with i2Coalition and is still an active group within the organization.
Stay tuned for next Monday’s podcast, where i2Coalition founder and Executive Director Christian Dawson will explain the organization’s history and why it is launching the new alliance.
