Dan.com will soon migrate accounts to Afternic before shutting down.
Afternic representatives have been open about Dan.com eventually shutting down. Today, the company published a timeline and migration plans.
As of today, new clients can’t sign up for Dan.com accounts. Shortly, a four-week migration window will begin for moving Dan.com accounts to Afternic.
Customers will be able to choose a self-migration, auto-migration, or to opt out of the migration altogether.
The migration will be most important for people who have domains at Dan.com that aren’t listed on Afternic already. In this case, the migration will involve moving the domains to Afternic.
There are a few key parts to the migration that I think are worth calling attention to:
- While Dan’s nameservers will still work, customers will need to move their nameservers to Afternic if they wish to choose anything other than the Afternic Custom Lander
- Existing lease-to-own transactions will be moved to Afternic in November
- If you have active negotiations at Dan, you need to wrap them up before the migration period ends
At this point, I believe nearly all Dan functionality is now available within Afternic except for the ability to self-broker. Afternic says self-brokering is coming, but it hasn’t announced a definitive date.

Oh well thats the end of the good broker, DAN. all we have left is a rubbish extortionately priced company ,Afternic.

I’m looking forward to using the self-brokering feature at Afternic. Hopefully it’s available this year and the fee will be at or below 10%.
They finally added the Make Offer feature that I’ve been begging for, for years! I used the MO option some at GoDaddy Auctions.
GoDaddy needs to add the Make Offer option to the GoDaddy.com domain search path as well. BIN is the only option as of right now.
I know that they’re working on it, but you’re right, that’s something else that’s missing that is in Dan
I have the same names listed at both Dan and Afternic, does this means I should delete all the names at Dan and just opt-out of migration?
