That’s a lot of oinking.
Domain name registrar Porkbun has hit two million domains under management, the registrar announced today.
I like Porkbun has a registrar. When I reflect on why, I think it comes down to two things.
First, its pricing is consistent and fair. The registrar usually adds about a dollar plus credit card fees to wholesale prices. I don’t need to comparison shop when I register domains; I know I’ll get a good price if I go straight to Porkbun. (It makes even less on .com. Right now, new registrations are $6.99, and renewals are $10.37.)
Second, and this probably sounds corny, but Porkbun makes me smile. The site plays off its name with some funny puns and other whimsy. It’s refreshing in an industry that’s all about technology.
Ray King created Porkbun as a way to market his top level domains, such as .design. (He sold his remaining top level domains to GoDaddy last year.) He clearly hit on a winning strategy. The registrar has grown organically by word of mouth.
Over 600,000 of the domains on Porkbun are .com, and another 900,000 are in new top level domains.
