Registrar hits one million domains as it continues to gain business.
Namecheap’s new domain name registrar, Spaceship, has hit 1 million domains under management.
In a release yesterday, the registrar broke down the numbers:
- 71% new registrations, 29% inbound transfers
- 13% are .com. Many of the other top domains are inexpensive (for the first year) domains. Here are the top domains registered so far (excludes transfers):
- .shop 193k
- .com 91k
- .sbs 67k
- .net 29k
- .xyz 23k
- .org 18k
- .cfd 18k
- Top ccTLDs are .in and .uk, with 10k each.
- 21% of registrations come from the US, 11% from China, and then India, Singapore and Hong Kong account for 7% each
One way the registrar is attracting customers is with inexpensive prices. Right now, new .com registrations are $8.48, with $9.48 renewals.
For domain investors, a big question will be which domain sales networks work with Spaceship. CEO Richard Kirkendall said Sedo is coming soon, but he believes Afternic will not. He’s considering removing Namecheap from Afternic, too. According to Kirkendall, Afternic wants to charge him $100 any time a domain on Spaceship is transferred out due to a Fast Transfer sale.

I personally don’t use Spaceship. Reminds me of a new gTLD registrar.
I cannot sign into my account most of the time anyway.
