Several teams could acquire their matching domains for five figures.

The National Hockey League finals are here, pitting the Edmonton Oilers against the Dallas Stars in the West and Florida Panthers against the New York Rangers in the East.
It’s been about five years since I last looked at which NHL teams own their team name as a domain name. No NHL teams have acquired their domain names since then. This is a bit surprising, given that many of them are available at low cost. Edmonton can buy Oilers.com for $30,000, or even buy it on lease-to-own.
These nine teams own their .com domain name:
- Hurricanes.com (Carolina)
- Senators.com (Ottawa)
- Blackhawks.com (Chicago) – obtained via UDRP
- BlueJackets.com (Columbus)*
- Sabres.com (Buffalo)*
- Canadiens.com (Montreal)
- Canucks.com (Vancouver)
- MapleLeafs.com* (Toronto)
- Wild.com* (Minnesota)
As for the other team names, some are not obtainable because of how they’re used. Some NHL teams have the same name as teams in other sports, and the team in the other sport owns the domain. Three teams’ matching domains are owned by the MLB, NFL or NBA. Here’s who owns the other team names:
- Rangers.com (New York) – Major League Baseball for the Texas Rangers
- Islanders.com (New York) – Domain investor Michael Castello. Up for auction at NamesCon in June.
- Flyers.com (Philadelphia) – Ice House Sportscards in Pennsylvania. It’s a site about the Flyers.
- Bruins.com (Boston) – GoDaddy’s NameFind. The domain has a minimum offer of $65,000.
- Panthers.com (Florida) – National Football League for the Carolina Panthers
- Ducks.com (Anaheim) – Bass Pro Shops
- Flames.com (Calgary) – In 2019, this domain was owned by GoDaddy’s NameFind. It appears Ammar Kubb’s Afterthought now owns it.
- Oilers.com (Edmonton) – GoDaddy’s NameFind. Buy now of $30,000 or lease-to-own.
- Kings.com (L.A.) – National Basketball League for the Sacramento Kings
- Blues.com (St. Louis) – Blues Wireless acquired the domain in 2019
- Devils.com (New Jersey) – Resolves to an email login page
- Penguins.com (Pittsburgh) – Domain investor DigiMedia owns this domain
- Capitals.com (Washington DC) – Parked
- RedWings.com (Detroit) – Parked
- Lightning.com (Tampa Bay) – Salesforce for its “Lightning Experience”
- Stars.com (Dallas) – Listed for sale for $5.9 million
- Predators.com (Nashville) – Parked
- Jets.com (Winnipeg) – Private jet company
- Sharks.com (San Jose) – Resolves to an Afternic “might be for sale” page, suggesting perhaps the domain sold.
- GoldenKnights.com (Las Vegas) – Does not resolve.
- Coyotes.com (Phoenix) – Domain does not resolve. The Coyotes are on hiatus as the team moves to Utah. The new name hasn’t been selected.
- Kraken.com (Seattle) – Used by Kraken cryptocurrency platform.

What about MLB teams?
You wrote 2019 piece outline MLB domains ownership (except 3)
https://domainnamewire.com/2019/04/15/3-domains-still-elude-major-league-baseball/
1) Giants.com – MLB isn’t going to get this domain for San Francisco. It’s owned by the NFL Giants.
2) Rays.com – Rays is a popular Seattle seafood restaurant. I wonder how much the domain is worth to them?
3)Twins.com – D&D Miller
in Cali owns the domain. This one seems like the most obtainable. It’s not used for web presence.
Today, only Rays.com remains elusive and i doubt one of cheapest MLB teams (Rays) buys
i exempted Giants; (another sport; and it’s a more popular sport)
NHL has the longest to go, seems. Nice write-up, as always!
Michael and I co-own Islanders.com.
Thanks for clarifying.
