Sellers hope to get at least $20 million for the domain.
The domain name sex.com, once the most valuable domain on the internet, is for sale again.
Most recently sold for $13 million, the owners hope to sell it for at least $20 million this time around.
Minimum bids are $20 million, but only $10 million needs to be paid upfront. Bidding will run from now until January 31.
In addition to the domain, the sellers are offering up user accounts, social media accounts, and the code. It will also introduce the buyers to existing advertisers and vendors.
According to the sellers, the site gets over 1 million daily unique visitors. On a monthly basis, over 20 million people visit from direct entry and another 20 million from search engines.
There’s also a sizeable database of registered users. The site gets at least 40,000 registrations per month.
It also boasts thousands of creators on the platform, who split revenues.
So we’re talking about more than just a domain for sale.
Whether sex.com (the domain) is worth what it sold for in 2013 is debatable. It will be interesting to see what happens.
Considering the whole package, it seems like the sellers will get their $20M for the domain and the accumulated user base. Let’s wait a few weeks and see who will be the buyer.
They really missed the greatest sell opportunity in recent history by NOT selling in 2021.
Maybe the recession has impacted some level of their current business to necessitate a sale?
I’d wait until 2024 once crypto winter is over.
Seems like the worst time to sell Sex*com to me. But $20M should still be attainable.
I still think it’s the most valuable name on the Internet.
As you said, it’s more than a domain for sale.
Definitely worth at least $20 million.
They missed the peak. This is an indicator that domain values are coming down when, arguably, the most valuable domain of all can’t quickly command $20 mil for the name alone.
