Shane Kinsch strikes again with another big domain name sale.
Anyone who owns a three letter .com domain name has received many offers for it. It was probably tempting to sell during the Chinese boom a few years back, when investors regularly offered $50,000+ for halfway decent domains.
But Shane Kinsch held out with his domain FTA.com. It was worth the wait — he just sold the domain for $400,000.
The updated Whois record shows that Awesome Motive Inc. in Florida is the buyer. The company is the creator of WPBeginner, OptinMonster, MonsterInsights, WPForms, and SeedProd. It’s not clear what it will use this domain for.
I’ve previously written about some of Kinsch’s sales, including Cumberland.com for $250,000 and Barri.com for $100,000.
Kinsch registered a couple of thousand domain names in the late 90s and early 00s, including many three letter domains. He registered FTA.com in December 1999, back when Network Solutions charged $70 per domain and sent a paper receipt whenever you registered a name. He still has a copy of that receipt (see picture).
It took two decades, but Kinsch turned a $70 registration into $400,000.
Congrats to a great (and super smart) guy.
I didn’t save any of the thousands of bills they sent me. You didn’t get just one bill per domain name.
“Ah, the good old days. Shane Kinsch bought FTA.com for $70 in 1999,””
He did not buy, he hand reg the domain name!!
I have to bow bow to Mr.Shane Kinsch ,he gets my A++++ respect and that the kind of story I like to hear, someone who hand reg and sells for big bucks not like some just just bought domains because s/he has the money.
He is really the true domain Investor/Pro not like other fakers.
