Domain names tipped off the change three months ago.
On September 4, I posited that Facebook might be changing the name of its cryptocurrency initiative from Libra to Diem.
It turns out I was right. The name changed was announced today.
Once again, domain names told the story. Some company was registering lots of domain names with the brand Diem and cryptocurrency terms back in September. It also appeared that someone purchased the domain name Diem.com. Given the timing, scale, and registrar, I suggested that Facebook was behind the registrations.
I had my doubts after a couple of commenters pointed out that Diem is already the name of a failed initiative in the crypto space. But today we got confirmation.
Diem Association’s main website is at Diem.com.

Good nose Andrew, I was one of the one’s pointing out it was a failed name already in the space. Quite frankly I am puzzled at how lazy FB was on this one. Mind you their whole approach to the space was terrible to start with. They are now limited to simply creating something already in use, genius. They seem to try to be pushing themselves into a space that only a Gov. will eventually control. Last time I checked most governments preferred that.
On a side note I will be personally revolutionizing the world with a round thing that some call a wheel.
