You don’t know to understand Chinese to find meanings for acronyms.
Recently I discovered a tool which, together with a translation tool, may help you find Chinese meanings of an acronym domain even if you don’t speak the language.
The tool is 域名含义助手 (Domain Meaning Assistant) at JSCXC.com. The site is very easy to use. It provides a search box and a button, as shown in the image below.
Ignore the Chinese placeholder in the search box. Just enter an acronym and click the 查询 (check) button. Example: zml (ZML.com was sold in August for $34,000.) You’ll find over 400 Chinese phrases suggested.
The phrases are shown in red or black, but there is apparently no difference between them. If you don’t read Chinese, you can use Yabla for translation. Just copy a Chinese phrase (祖母绿 in this example) and paste it into the search box of Yabla. Here, ZML stands for Zu Mu Lu (emerald).
Let’s try a longer domain: HJQP.com which sold in August for $9,349. Domain Meaning Assistant gives you about 30 Chinese phrases including the following four with translations provided by Yabla.
Chinese | Pinyin | Meaning |
---|---|---|
黄金棋牌 | Huang Jin Qi Pai | golden chess piece |
红江棋牌 | Hong Jiang Qi Pai | red river chess piece |
黄金旗袍 | Huang Jin Qi Pao | golden Chinese-style dress |
黄金嵌片 | Huang Jin Qian Pian | golden embed thin piece |
How about JSCXC.com? I can’t find its meaning on the site. Entering “jscxc” into its search box gives the only suggestion: Jia Shi Chan Xue Che (驾驶铲雪车=drive a snowplow). To understand an acronym domain, drive a snowplow? Funny!
So, if you want to know Chinese meanings of an acronym domain, try JSCXC.com and Yabla.com together.
